- How Long Should You Stay in an Ice Bath? Duration and Time Recommendations
How much ice do I need to add?
We recommend adding 15-20kg of ice to the IceTub per session depending on the initial water temperature. The amount of ice needed highly depends on your tap water temperature, the climate you live in, and how cold you desire it to be. If you live in colder climates, adding ice may not even be needed.
Since the IceTub is insulated it will keep the water cold for longer, and you may therefore not have to add as much ice after the first time.
IceTub dimensions, water capacity & weight limit
Diameter: 80cm
Height: 75cm
Weight: 4 kg
Capacity: 320L
Suitable for heights up to 6′5 foot (2m) and fits people weighing up to 115kg-135kg comfortably.
What temperature do you recommend?
We recommend starting out with your ice bath tub temperature at around 15 to 20°C if it's your first time, and then slowly lowering the temperature and duration for each session. That way your body will get acclimated to the cold.
How long should each ice bath session be?
To get the health benefits, you'll need to stay in cold water below 15°C for 3-15 minutes. Cold water therapy works best with the right combination of time and temperature. Each individual is different and some people can tolerate lower temperatures.
How do I drain The IceTub?
The IceTub comes with a tap at the bottom for draining. To drain it, connect a standard garden hose or simply open the tap depending on where the IceTub is set up.
Does it include a cover?
Yes! The IceTub includes a waterproof cover to keep the water clean.
We recommend also adding our Insulated Lid for extra insulation so your water stays cold for longer.
How often should I clean/empty the IceTub?
To keep the water clean for long periods of time, we recommend adding salt to the water. Simply buy raw cheap salt and add around 1kg to a full IceTub.
You can keep the water in the IceTub for 2-4 weeks when using salt. With no use of salt to disinfect we recommend changing the water every 3-5 sessions.
Can the IceTub be set up outside?
Yes!
We engineered the IceTub to be weather and UV resistant, so you can set it up Inside or outside, even in temperatures below freezing. The insulation layer makes the water turn to ice a lot slower.
Is the IceChiller compatible with my current ice bath?
Yes. The IceChiller can easily be used with your current IceTub or even any form of other ice bath.
Connect to your existing IceTub (1 drain valve):
You simply connect the hose entering the water filter side of the chiller, to the drain valve on your IceTub. And the second hose coming from the chiller outlet, goes into the IceTub over the top ring/edge.
Connect to any other Ice Bath:
You can also connect the IceChiller to any ice bath, bathtub, bucket - you name it. The IceChiller comes with pump and filter, so you simply put both hoses from the chiller into any body of water to start cooling it.
How cold can it make my water?
The IceChiller can cool up to 400 Liters of water down to 5°C in climates with temperatures above 30°C
Is the chiller gonna run up my electricity bill?
No! The Power usage is only 280 watt, which is comparable to the freezer/fridge in your home.
Example of power usage:
At 25°C room temperature, and chiller temperature set at 8°C will consume around 1.5 kWh per day (every 24 hours). With todays average kWh in Malaysia costing RM0.50, that is just around RM0.75 at per day in electricity cost to run The Ice Chiller 24/7.
(These are estimates and can vary depending on the climate and temperatures where you live).
Does the chiller come with a filter to keep the water clean?
Yes, our IceChiller has a 20 micron filter with 24/7 water circulation which filters out hair, skin cells, leaves, sand and other debris. Enjoy a clean and clear ice bath at all times, ready for you when you are.
Be your own judge of the water condition, and change it when needed. But if you choose not to use sanitizer to disinfect, we recommend changing the water every 3-5 sessions or once per week.
We also recommend cleaning the IceChiller's water filter once every 1-2 weeks. You simply unscrew the transparent cover, take out the filter, and rinse it with a brush and tap water, or spray it with a garden hose at high pressure. And replace with a brand new filter once a month to not cause damage to the IceChiller due to restricted water flow.
How much will I save on ice?
Assuming each ice bath session requires around 15 - 25kg of ice, and with an average cost of RM10 per 10kgs, we have calculated that at 5 ice baths per week, the chiller cost is made back in 8-10 months.
Investing in the water chiller is undoubtedly a smart financial & time saving decision if you're a regular ice plunger.
Can I keep the IceChiller outdoors?
Yes! The IceChiller is water resistant, so it will not get damaged from humidity and weather. With that said, we do always recommend keeping it under a shaded spot to protect from bad weather and direct sunlight as these factors can negatively impact its performance & lifespan.
Security measures should also be taken such as bringing the IceChiller indoors if it's lightning or storming outside.
Important: Please do not cover it with anything like a cover while it's running as it needs to be able to get airflow so it can cool down, and always have at least 15 inches of space around the IceChiller.
How is the IceChiller so cheap compared to competitors?
We get this one a lot, but the answer is surprisingly simple.
